Validation Study: RGB-D vs. Vicon Gold Standard

In our most comprehensive validation study to date, we systematically compared HoloMotion's RGB-D based motion capture against Vicon — the gold standard in optical motion capture systems used by research institutions worldwide.

Study Design

We recruited 120 subjects across diverse age groups (18-75) and physical conditions, performing standardized movements including gait, running, squats, and clinical assessments. Each movement was simultaneously captured by both systems for direct comparison.

Key Findings

  • Angular accuracy: RMSE < 2.5° across all major joint angles during gait
  • Temporal parameters: Stride time agreement within 15ms of Vicon measurements
  • Spatial parameters: Step length accuracy within 2cm across all subjects
  • Reliability: ICC > 0.95 for repeated measurements within sessions

Clinical Significance

These results demonstrate that HoloMotion's markerless system achieves accuracy sufficient for clinical decision-making, while eliminating the 30-60 minute setup time required by marker-based systems. This makes high-quality motion analysis feasible in routine clinical practice for the first time.
